Mr David Mitchell is a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial/Head
& Neck Surgeon at Bradford Teaching Hospitals and Calderdale
& Huddersfield Hospitals subspecialising in complex ablative
and reconstructive maxillofacial oncology. He is Editor of the
British Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Honorary
Tutor to the Faculty of Dental Surgery RCS England. He was Head of
Department and Lead Clinician for Head and Neck Cancer Services at
Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals and a Senior Lecturer & Honorary
Consultant at Leeds Teaching Hospitals for nearly 17 years.
David qualified in Dentistry in 1981 (Dundee) and Medicine in
1989 (Newcastle) training throughout the North East of Scotland,
England and Yorkshire and a multitude of other sites and countries.
A Fellow of all 3 British Surgical Colleges he worked as the first
OMFS Tutor in the RCSEng Raven Department of Education where he
introduced the Human Factors concept. He is Co-Director of 5
International surgical courses based in Germany where he is closely
associated with 2 research groups.
The author of 2 textbooks (1 in 6th edition, the other 2nd) a
couple of hundred other publications and a committed teacher his
current British research interests are in assessing and supporting
intimacy and sexuality issues in head and neck cancer patients and
the impact of texture, temperature and taste post major
A former triathlete and martial artist, he took up rock wall
