David is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Leeds and
NIHR Research Professor. His clinical interests include
robotic and minimally invasive surgery and surgery for pelvic floor
dysfunction, including faecal incontinence and constipation.
His research interests include the development of new surgical
technologies and devices for minimally invasive surgery. In 2012 he
was awarded NIHR Research Professorship to accelerate research and
implementation of new technologies into clinical practice.
He is a Chief investigator for several NIHR portfolio clinical
trials, including MRC/EME/NIHR ROLARR, HTA/NIHR FIAT, MRC/EME/NIHR
GLiSten and HTA/NIHR SaFaRI. David is also the Clinical Director of
the Leeds NIHR Healthcare Technology Cooperative in Colorectal
Therapies, which aims to create a national network of clinicians,
academics, patients and public representativ, and commercial
partners to develop novel solutions to unmet clinical need in
