The Association of Breast Surgery at BASO has contributed to a number of guidelines in recent years Surgical guidelines for the management of breast cancer The Association’s guidelines for the management of symptomatic breast disease from 2005 have been updated. The management of breast cancer from the point of diagnosis should essentially be the same, whether the cancer is detected via breast screening or as a result of the investigation of breast symptoms. These new ‘Surgical guidelines for the management of breast cancer’ reflect this. They should be used in conjunction with the updated ‘Quality Assurance Guidelines for Surgeons in Breast Cancer Screening (Fourth Edition)’. They were published in the European Journal of Surgical Oncology in August 2007.
